Vijayawada
Vijayawada, located in the Krishna district of Andhra Pradesh is surrounded by water bodies on its three sides and a mountain on the fourth side, giving the city a splendid scenic beauty. The city is located on the banks of the Krishna river which runs on its southern side while the Budameru river runs on its north. The Bay of Bengal lies on the east of Vijayawada and on the west is the Indrakeeladri Mountain. On the outskirts of the city, to the west, lies the Kondapalli Reserve Forest, which provides the city with lush green freshness. The word Vijayawada means “land of victory” and is named after the goddess of the city Kanaka Durga, who is also known by the name of Vijaya. The city is also famous by the name Bezawada which is the old name of the city. The city of Vijayawada is one of the leading tourist destinations of the country and is famous for its juicy mangoes, a wide variety of sweet delicacies and numerous beautiful springs. Kondapalli fort
Kondapalli fort is built on a hillock dating back 14th century. Legends claims that it is built by great king Sri Krishna Devaraya and some argues that Prolaya Remareddy was the founder of this fort. It is three-storied rock tower houses a persian saint dargah. Kondapalli toys are very popular among tourists. It is one of steadily growing picnic spot in Vijayawada.
Undavalli Caves
Famous 7th century caves, located on a summit of a gigantic mountain which is facing majestic river Krishna. A mammoth monolithic granite statue of Lord Vishnu in recline pose is center of tourist attraction. There are several other specimen of cut-in sculptures and architectural models attracts numerous visitors every year.
Kanaga Durga Temple
A proud temple located on Indrakiladri hills and believed to be built by great warrior Arjuna. It is dedicated to Goddess Durga, idol of this Goddess is depicting eight hands, powerful weapons and adorned with flowers and precious ornaments. The statue is measuring 4 feet in height. Shivarathri and Dussehra are famous festivals.
Rajiv Gandhi Park
It is an attractive horticulture park and gateway of Vijayawada presently. Very beautiful park with gardens, water fountains and mini zoo. It is a hot picnic spot with eye-fetching scenic splendors and best place to relax.
